BUTTERWORTH (Bernama) – Police have rescued 35
Bangladeshi men from a house in Taman Selayang, Sungai Puyu, where they
were confined after having been smuggled from a neighbouring country by a
human-trafficking syndicate.
Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the Bangladeshi
nationals, aged between 20 and 45, were found to be in frail condition
after they were rescued in a police raid on the house at 3pm following a
public tip-off.
“They were said to have been brought to the state across
the Malaysian-Thai border in Padang Besar, Perlis, and handed over to a
syndicate member before being brought to the house in Taman Selayang,”
he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.
He said an investigation also showed that all the men
were confined in a house rented by the syndicate over a week ago and
were waiting to be sold to an employer.
Police also nabbed seven others of Myanmar nationality, two of them
women, who were believed to be members of the human-trafficking
syndicate, besides seizing cash, mobile telephones and a record book on
migrant smuggling activities during the raid.Ref : http://borneobulletin.brunei-online.com
